Fall Reset

I started the Spring Cleanse years ago. It’s a time to sweep out our hearths in magical and intentional preparation for the season of growth. A few years after I felt settled into my spring routine, I began to feel a twinge around the Fall equinox. It makes sense. That is a realistic time to reset something; it's the season of change. But I struggled. Spring cleaning isn’t new, it’s very old. Most likely older than documented time keeping. Fall cleaning didn’t feel right. Fall isn’t the season of clearing out, it’s the season of bringing in. So while I lived out loud with the spring cleanse, I quietly fiddled with my intuition and heart with the fall.... And I’m ready to share what I am confident is the next step in my seasonal, magical calendar: The Fall Reset.

The Spring Cleanse is proverbially scrubbing out your soup pot, your hearth, your cauldron. The Fall Reset is filling it up and  tenderly and lovingly caring for yourself and your kin as we embrace the season of gathering. The Fall Reset is when we check our glasses prescription to ensure we can cozy up with our favorite book this winter, when we try a new soup or pie recipe before bringing it to the potluck. It’s when we swap our puzzles with friends and count our yarn stash for projects. It’s about fluffing our homes’ pillows, so to say, before we rest inside for winter. That rest, mind you, doesn’t consist of sitting around binge-watching TV (okay... it’s sorta that too), rather a stillness that truly deserves the same intention and planning that our movement gets.

In the Northern Hemisphere, I begin my fall reset on September 1st and it climaxes with the equinox. If you live in the southern hemisphere, please feel free to use these tools as you see fit, or completely swap to the Spring Cleanse for September.
